How it's working

1. Needs Assessment & Planning

  • Identify the purpose of the network (e.g., file sharing, internet access, VoIP, etc.).

  • Assess the number of users, devices, and required bandwidth.

  • Determine wired vs. wireless needs, scalability, and future growth.

2. Network Design

  • Create a network topology (star, mesh, hybrid, etc.).

  • Plan IP addressing scheme (static/dynamic).

  • Select appropriate network hardware (routers, switches, access points, firewalls).

3. Site Survey

  • Evaluate the physical location for network layout.

  • Identify potential interference or obstacles for wireless signals.

  • Plan cabling routes and placement of devices for optimal coverage and performance.

4. Procurement of Equipment

  • Purchase network hardware, cabling, racks, connectors, and tools.

  • Ensure compatibility and scalability of all components.

5. Installation of Cabling and Hardware

  • Install and test Ethernet cables, fiber optics, or wireless access points.

  • Mount and configure network devices (routers, switches, patch panels).

  • Label cables and ports for future maintenance.

6. Network Configuration

  • Set up routers, switches, and firewalls with appropriate settings.

  • Configure VLANs, subnets, and DHCP/DNS servers.

  • Secure the network with encryption, passwords, and access control lists.

7. Testing & Validation

  • Test connectivity across all devices and segments.

  • Check internet access, file sharing, printer access, and VoIP (if applicable).

  • Run performance tests and troubleshoot any issues.

8. Documentation

  • Document network layout, IP addressing, device configurations, and credentials.

  • Create a network map and backup configuration files.

9. Training & Handover

  • Train staff or IT personnel on basic troubleshooting and network usage.

  • Provide documentation and ongoing support guidelines.

10. Ongoing Support & Maintenance

  • Monitor network performance regularly.

  • Update firmware/software of network devices.

  • Schedule routine maintenance and security audits.
